That same attack piece received so much attention that it made the front page of online news aggregator Reddit under the title "fearmongering!
"Then, today the national newspaper Washington Examiner took note of Merritt's lies, calling the mailer "one of the most hyperbolic attacks of the cycle."
Merritt has sent almost exclusively negative attacks because he knows that he can't compete on the issues. Merritt spent 14 years in Austin opposing our East Texas values on issues like Voter ID, illegal immigration, taxes, spending, abortion...and the list goes on.That's why we FIRED Tommy Merritt two years ago!
Now, Mr. Merritt is trying to hide from his record on Voter ID
, claiming that Rep. Simpson misrepresented his position. According to Merritt, he is just misunderstood. He really does support Voter ID! (So he claims.) Well, let's let him speak for himself. In April of 2009, he told the Dallas Morning News
: "Voter ID is a passing issue in the Republican Party that will come and go, just like term limits."
Hmm...that doesn't sound like strong support to me.Tommy Merritt is simply too liberal for East Texas.
We need a strong conservative champion like our Representative, David Simpson, to fight for our values in the Texas Legislature. David Simpson won't say one thing in Longview and do another in Austin. And David Simpson won't back down when it comes to defending our East Texas principles.Like you, I'm tired of the "go along to get along" mentality that is driving our country into bankruptcy and allowing liberals like President Barack Obama to ruin our country.
We don't need someone who will just vote the right way some of the time. We need a conservative CHAMPION like David Simpson who will turn the train around, and put us back on the right track.
That's why over 1000 East Texans and a long list of conservative leaders and organizations have endorsed Rep. Simpson for re-election.
